Hello, all! It's been a while but-- finals. Which are now over! HUZZAH! And I'm at home! HUZZAH! And it's almost Christmas! HUZZAH! And I have hired out the British navy to stand around me shouting HUZZAH! Okay, not really that last one.
But anyway, to get up to speed: Phantom of the Opera was AWESOME. Even though our seats were way far back, it was awesome. I had fragments of the songs stuck in my head for oaver a week afterward, which was frustrating as I only have four of them on CD. Yet all is well, for I'm getting the complete soundtrack for Christmas. I know, because my mom bought it while I was there. I picked it out. And then I wasn't allowed to listen to it, which is really frustrating.
The most interesting part of the evening was probably the bit where I fell down the stairs. You see, we were seated in the upper balcony, and during intermission we went down two flights of slick marble stairs to get to the lobby and buy shirts (which glow in the dark!). Anyway, I wasn't used to walking in heels, and the stairs were slick, and I misstepped and went sliding down about half a flight of stairs on my knees. It was rather like a very bumpy slide. Fortunately, I didn't knock anybody down or anything, and a very nice lady helped me up when I came to a stop. It was pretty funny. Even I thought it was funny. Not too embarrassing, really, since the only person around who I would ever see again was my roommate. (Hi, Kelly! You're probably sick to death of this story by now!) My lower legs looked like someone had taken to them with a large stick for the next couple of weeks or so, and I rather proudly showed off the bruises. Because, come on, I fell down the stairs at the Murat! It takes a special kind of uncoordinated person to do that! It's a story for posterity! "See those stairs, kids? I fell down those stairs once."
A part of Phantom that I really enjoyed (aside from the obvious things like the phenomenal singing and sets and costumes, which-- wow) was that I now really have a better understanding of many of the jokes in Maskerade. (Masquerade! Paper faces on parade! Masquerade! Hide your face so the world will never find you!) In Maskerade, every time the least little thing happens-- say, a piece of dust falls from the fly loft-- everybody freaks out and faints and screams "It's the Opera Ghost!!" Well, that's exactly what happens in Phantom. Seriously. And the notes from the Ghost himself-- ha! If they weren't being read in such a sinister voice, they would actually be very civil. Which is why the notes in Maskerade go something like, "Dear Sirs, I hope you are well. The weather continues fine. I would appreciate it if you would allow Christine to sing the lead in the next performance. Yrs Sincerly, The Opera Ghost. P.S. Ahaha! Ahaha! Ahahahahahahahaha! BEWARE!!!!!" All people in opera are crazy indeed. That's another thing: it struck me how so few people in Phantom seem to think that Christine is absolutely fruitcake crazy. She's walking around saying things like "The Angel of Music sings songs in my head!" and everyone's just kind of like, "That's nice, dear." "No, really! Father told me that the Angel of Music would come to me, and now he has!" "Of course he has." "The Angel of Music is very strict!" "Uh... sure." "He'll always be here singing songs in my head!!" "Go sing, Christine."
Other than that, finals are over. They weren't too bad, except that two of them were papers, and I had another paper due last week as well. So two finals and three papers. It sucked. But now it's over, and I think it's all turned out all right. I really enjoyed my classes this term. Great Works was, of course, my favorite with its wonderful quest archetypes. I'm going to finish reading Hero With a Thousand Faces over break, and probably some more of Jung too, because I think the topic is just fascinating. Of course, I'll still be taking the class next term, with King Arthur, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars. (sigh) Heaven. Literary Analysis was good too-- originally intimidating because I was the only freshman, but then that sort of went away because I realized that I'm about as smart as everyone in that class anyway. (Don't tell me to go joust with humility or anything; I got better grades on papers than most of the people in there, and some of them were just taking it to fulfill requirements. I feel justified in that statement.) I wrote an intertextual analysis of Macbeth and Wyrd Sisters and an archetypal analysis of the end of Le Morte D'Arthur which Mr. Dr. Battles asked for electronic copies of to keep. :) Philosophy and Theology were all right. I'm glad I took them, and I definitely learned stuff. I do wish we'd have covered a wider variety of material in both classes, but particularly in philosophy I learned what we did study really well. In the case of philosophy that was Aristotle. All Aristotle, all the time. I never want to think about Aristotle ever again. Ever. But I probably will, because I learned stuff from him. Dammit!
Other than that, I went to LC's holiday concert last night, which was long but cool. Seeing Sprit of Central performing really makes me very proud to be an LC alumna. You guys are going to rock the Rose Bowl Parade!
This journal has received the coveted Master Conrad Fangirl Award for my fangirl squeeing over the ROTS trailer. :) I am honored. Conversely, my roommate says this journal is boring because I only talk about fandoms and things, not about my real life. To which I respond: No, what would be boring is if I DID talk about my real life. Good Lord. "Today I woke up and went to class and went online and did homework. Then I went back to bed. The end." I don't like talking about really personal stuff in such a public forum. If you're going to keep a personal journal, in my opinion, do it on real paper and do it for yourself. For goodness sake, didn't people used to get *upset* when other people read their diaries?
Sorry, just a little rant, and no offense to those who do keep that kind of online journal. I admire your openness. I just can't do that, nor would I want to.
Well, now that's it's break there will be more updates. I think I'm going to learn how to do an LJ cut and then post a detailed summary of the ROTS stuff I know. There are other places on the internet you can go for this, but I'm really proud of myself becaues it's starting to come together in my head, and I want to kind of plot it out. Or maybe I won't post it and just do it for myself, instead. Aside from that, I've been working on Surrender. I've finished the first segment of Chapter 2: Coruscant I (a segment nicknamed, for my own amusement, "What Kind of Day Has It Been, Padmé?") and have started segment two of that chapter ("Cool Hand Anakin"). My goal is to get the whole thing finished by Christmas. Fingers crossed.
Everybody who reads this, please try to comment. I want to see if it will show up, because I'm trying to make it so that it will. Thanks!

Now that finals are over, please update society's pants? It has grown stagnant.

Hi! I haven't commented here yet! Hurrah. Good job on your Conrad Fangirl Award ;) Oh, and your explanation of your philosophy class is funnay as hell. Ignore typos in this and subsequent comments, because my keryboard has decided to go insane. ~Aliicia~
